Gangwon Province held a launching ceremony for the "RISE Center for Regional Innovation-oriented University Support System" at the provincial government office on March 16.

RISE is a project that converts the administrative and financial authority of university financial projects held by the Ministry of Education to metropolitan local governments to promote regional and university shared growth. The Gangwon Human Resources Development and Lifelong Education Promotion Agency has been designated as the Gangwon Center.

On this day, a business agreement ceremony was also held to establish a cooperative relationship between Gangwon-do, the center, and 16 universities in the province. The main contents include △ cultivation of local resident talent △ advancement of local industrial ecosystem △ resolution of local issues and economic revitalization △ establishment of local, industrial, academic, and research governance.

Recently, Gangwon-do established a human resources development department to strengthen university cooperation and support functions. It plans to establish a five-year RISE project plan by combining opinions from cities and counties and universities within this year.

Gangwon Province Governor Kim Jin-tae said, "The RISE project will begin in earnest next year," adding, "Gangwon Province and universities will cooperate to focus on regional development and invest for innovation."
