Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital was selected as the first research-oriented medical institution in Gangwon-do. It is a state-of-the-art bio-health research center that has won 41.2 billion won in national projects.

Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital was selected as the "2025 1st Certified Research-oriented Hospital" organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare on the March 26. Among the new institutions selected this time, Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital is the only general hospital.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health and Welfare selected a total of 21 medical institutions as research-oriented hospitals by comprehensively reviewing the research system, professional manpower, clinical research performance capabilities, and specialized competitiveness over the past three months.

As a result, Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital has the opportunity to apply for large-scale national project research and development (R&D). It plans to play various roles in creating a biohealth research ecosystem.

Previously, Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital was also selected for the "Bio and Medical Technology Business Clinical Scientist Capacity Reinforcement Project" organized by the Ministry of Science and ICT in 2017. The following year, the 'New Frontier Research Institute' affiliated with Hallym University Medical School was also established for key research in the field of brain disease. The infrastructure has been established so that medical scientists can secure the original technologies necessary for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases and lead them to the practical and industrialization stages.

Since the establishment of the institute, it has achieved achievements such as opening Korea's first outpatient brain disease dielectric substance, developing an artificial intelligence model for predicting stroke based on carotid ultrasound, discovering premature birth and dielectric-based biomarkers to overcome low birth rate, and developing an artificial intelligence model that predicts gastric cancer and gastric cancer progenitor lesions in real-time endoscopic images.

In recognition of these achievements, the institute received the best S grade in the final evaluation of the 2021 Biomedical Technology Development Project's Clinical Scientist Research Competency Enhancement category, organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology and supported by the Korea Research Foundation.

Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital has been consistently selected for national research projects such as a research project to develop medical devices in the previous period, a research project to develop twin cardiovascular technology, a research-oriented hospital R&D project, a data construction support project for artificial intelligence learning, a leading research center for regional innovation (RLRC) project, and a public procurement-linked R&D demonstration support project. As a result, the cumulative research order exceeded 41.2 billion won. This is the largest medical institution in Gangwon-do.
